I missed the moments! June 12, 2011

I missed the moments when

I could gleefully dance

And be drenched in the falling rain.

I missed the moments when

I could play hide and seek

Without much restraint.

I missed the moments when

I could eat ice cream

Even the cheap colored one.

I missed the moments when

I would be chasing butterflies

With joys that never waned.

I missed the moments when

I would be climbing trees

Unmindful of the scratches and pain.

I long to be a li’l child once again

To relive those carefree, naive, playful days

And feel the joys of guiltless life

Bundled with mischiefs soaked in innocence!

Oh, how I missed those days!

to “To waggle tail, is to surrender to HIM”!

5. KP - June 13, 2011

As we grow up we get complicated.Childhood is simple and a bliss.
You have brought out finely the uninhibited joys of childhood in these few lines

8. Jim - June 13, 2011

I like this, Amity, a whole bunch! : )
I too wish That I could do those things withou pain.
I am scheduled for a knee replacement July 18.
..
BTW, pople can’t see what they are writing becuawe of the dark background in the comment box. It would be better white or if you used white typeface.
Ditto for the URL, e-mail, and name boxes.
..

Amity - June 13, 2011

Jim, yes, most of us want to do these whole bunch again – but with pain now… 😦
Knee replacement? That must be really painful…can you not do without it?
Take care then, heed to doc’s advise…they are our best refuge now when
we are really sick… 😦 But prayers work wonders Jim!

I tried changing the theme and color of my blog now…I hope it will be better now! 🙂

Jim - June 13, 2011

Things show up real good now, Amity. It wouldn’t have to be white but as you said, WP doesn’t give too much variety. Thank you. 🙂
..

Amity - June 13, 2011

Thanks Jim for the kind suggestion…:) The last one also strains my eyes…as I am using specs now I couldn’t read a word or two without it in regular font size.

9. Andy - June 13, 2011

This is simply lovely!
The images portray the innocence, freedom & naivety of a child’s life very well.

Oh to be free again…without all the responsibilities & stresses of life!

Thanks for sharing.

Amity - June 13, 2011

Thanks Andy you find it simply lovely! 🙂
I simply wish to be a child one again to be free from the worries and cares
of this adult life… 🙂 Yes, we can…!

You are most welcome in my blog Andy! 🙂

10. brokenpenwriter - June 13, 2011

I’m sure many writers will choose people as their object of longing, or perhaps places, but you chose moments. How wonderful, because moments are almost always able to be repeated, if not in having the experience, certainly in giving the experience – giving a child that icecream or taking them out to a meadow and showing them how to chase those butterflies and climb a tree together. Your poem made me feel good. A happy, lovely missing.

Amity - June 13, 2011

Thanks Brokenpenwriter for the lovely comment… 🙂
I know you could also feel those moments…and you sure are missing them, too!
Thanks for stopping by my place…feels good! 🙂

17. Daydreamertoo - June 14, 2011

When we are children, we can’t wait to grow up. Once we’re in our 30’s we want time to slow down. Being a child is so easy, we just don’t realise it with all the things we have to learn though.
Lovely thoughts, you captured those feelings and expressed them so well here.
Thanks for coming to read me and the lovely comments.
Yes, always a dreamer 🙂

Amity - June 15, 2011

HI Dreamer,

Thanks…you’re here! 🙂
And thank you for the truly inspiring comments about being a child…and they are all so true! I don’t realize that 😀
Have a nice day…dreamer..eh! 😉

18. Window Lad - June 14, 2011

…we can always be like a child if we really want to Mom… being young at heart is not a sin but as a matter of fact a pleasure that we must enjoy…. the moment we accept to ourselves that we are old already and getting older each day we are restricting ourselves from being happy and free… ice creams and boughs are not only for kids Mom… remember, regardless of how old someone can be he/she would still remain a child in the eyes of God.(:

Brightest blessings to you mom… smile.(:

~forget about being old…it is no truth… unless you let it be true to you…(:

–>>kelvin

Amity - June 15, 2011

That’s very true Kelvin..:) So we may be young or old, let us enjoy being childlike,
that’s when we are happiest now that we are all grown up!

Thank you Kelvin…son…you made my day so bright! 🙂
Don’t wanna grow old… 😀
Take care always!

19. Olive Tree - June 14, 2011

oh, how I miss those days too. Most importantly, I miss the worry-free days. As I’m getting older I feel like I carry more on my shoulders. Your poem definitely brought the sentimental feeling again of those days. Nicely done.

Amity - June 15, 2011

Hi Olive Tree,
Everyone feels the same way you do… 🙂 Thanks for finding my poem a bit sentimental you know!
Have a nice day! 🙂

20. Amanda Moore - June 15, 2011

Amity this is darling, I loved the part about the cheap ice cream you’re sooo right!

Amity - June 15, 2011

Yeah Amanda…really, really true! Just so I can have a cone of it…and why is it that colorful cones are cheaper than
the more delicious ones? Just an observation I had when I was a kid!

Thanks Amanda…your poems are also very very nice…that Ode to Summer? Loved it!

21. SandyCarlson - June 15, 2011

RE: –≫ …yes Mom.. it’s an ode to sake (the pleasure of drinking sake) i happened to taste many a year ago during an occasion i attended with some friends. It did taste good that it made me feel like wandering on the different places in Japan, and feel the cool breezes on hills (oka) and hear the sound of the river (kawa)… ain’t me so imaginative, eh? hehe…;P

–≫ …no Mom… i don’t have any Japanese blood in me (..do i look so..) but rather a mixture of Filipino-Spanish genes (that’s according to my parents) and of being a Filipino’s the most dominant part. By accident, i was enrolled in a Nihongo class during the undergrad though supposedly i was to take a world literature class but it seemed like i was the only one interested on the subject for nobody enrolled-in so it was dissolved and instead i was redirected to take the Nihongo class since it would just yield same credits. So no choice but to get use into it.. haha… Though i love anything about Japan, especially its literature, i find it quite hard when it comes to dealing with their languages since their sentence construction’s way different from that of the English translation… if sa’tin ang vowels ay: a e i o u… sa Nihon(Japan) naman: a i u e o… un ung basic pattern then the rest will follow… their languages are written as well in three forms: the Hiragana (their native words), Katakana (those borrowed words) and Kanji (similar to that of Chinese and uses symbols)… we’re taught to write in Hiragana and a bit in Katakana but never in Kanji since it’s very difficult to learn and would consume more time actually… for me mas prefer kop o ung Katakana since simple lang ung mga strokes… hehe… there were times pa nga po na i would really suffer memorizing various terms especially when we have quizzes and exams… but pinaka hate pag me recitation co’z we need to speak in Japanese while inside the class… terrible days but still i managed to get flat one in that particular coarse (if i may share lng po,,hehe..) so worth it na rin… dami ko na nasabi ah…hehe… Doomo arigatoo gozaimasu Mom!!! for your comments and support… Sayoonara!!! 

Amity - June 16, 2011

Ha ha…son…that was an amazing response from you and worth a read and learned so many lessons from you!
Now wonder you wrote the poem with much ease
as if you were a native speaker of Nihongo…:)

Tracing your roots, a bit of Japanese of you is your fair skin,,,but your eyes is not like one Japanese.
I guess, we have the same lineage, hence no doubt magaan ang loob ko sa yo eversince…who knows
magkamag-anak nga tayo…ha ha…not bad though! The good genes incidentally run in both our veins,
isn’t it!

Wow…getting a flat one in Nihongo, that’s no mean feat. This reminds me when I got a flat one in Spanish way back in college,
so many years ago…ha ha…Well, again, intelligent genes run really in our veins…lols! Just kidding, others may presume
that we got some inflated ego over getting those flat one grades in foreign language studies… 😛

Thanks for the grand explanation Kelvin…it was more of an entertainment on my part!
“Buenas noches y pasar un buen rato con Nihongo! Te amo hijo!”
